If you have an older dog, or your dog is in pain, massage gives you a unique way to look after your pet and make him feel better physically as well as emotionally.

You can start a massage process by using your grooming sessions as an informal massage session. Use a slicker brush - this is great on short-coated breeds. The slicker brush, or curry brush, gets out loose hair and massages your dog’s skin. Once they get used to it, dogs love being brushed with a slicker.

Dog owners learn how to massage pets notes that: “‘The benefits for animals from massage are similar to those for people,'’ says Hamilton. ‘I teach people how to massage their dogs, but once you learn to do it on dogs, you can use it on cats as well.'’”

Ask your vet to show you the best ways to massage your dog. You’ll find that your dog loves the attention and the time you spend with him.
