As a dog owner, leaving your dog at kennels when you go on vacation can ensure that you feel guilty for the whole trip. If your dog becomes ill while at the kennels, you can feel even worse.

Many pet owners are opting to take their dogs with them on vacation - but first you need to find a pet friendly hotel.

Pet friendly hotels are actually not as difficult to find as we think. There are numerous listings of pet friendly hotels and vacation houses on the internet and in the yellow pages as well. What we do need to make sure of though is to coordinate with the hotel that you are bringing in a pet. Most pet friendly hotels do have rules regarding the care and control of your pet, especially dogs. Just because the hotel advertises itself as pet friendly does not mean that your pet can just run wild around the hotel.

Most pet friendly hotels need to know the size and temperament of your dog; they are usually the ones that cause most concern in pet friendly hotels. They also need to be told before hand that you will be bringing a pet with you so they can prepare your accommodations accordingly.

Other pets that pet friendly hotels usually cater to are cats, fish and birds. They often add a perch or a cat stand in the room if you do announce that you will be bringing in a pet with you on your vacation. It is also best to make special arrangements for special pets like snakes or other exotic pets.

Some pet friendly hotels also have activities for your pets. The more common pets like cats and dogs can be left at their activity center or with a pet sitter. This is done so that you can also have some time for yourself to enjoy your vacation.
