My recommendation would be to have your veterinarian swab the ears and perform a cytology, a simple diagnostic procedure that helps your veterinarian decide on the proper antibiotic treatment. There are different types of bacteria and/or yeast that cause ear infections. The proper medication must be used to resolve the problem.
Some dogs seem prone to ear infections, while others can go their entire lives without incident. As the above story suggests, it’s best to get your dog checked out if you suspect an ear infection. Even when you clean his ears every couple of weeks, it won’t remove an infection.
