Dog owners often have problems when they decide to take a last minute week end breaks.

It may not be feasible to leave their dogs behind, or they may feel that their dogs need breaks too! Many people, who feel family holidays are incomplete without their dogs, do not want to do so either.  However, nowadays it may be possible to plan an impromptu holiday to a scenic locale, and a picturesque bed and breakfast. Dog friendly establishments in small places make it possible to go on a holiday with one’s dogs.

The numerous websites on the Internet that are devoted to the needs of dogs and their owners have names and addresses of bed and breakfast dog friendly inns. However, these may have some limitations regarding the number of dogs they can accommodate at a time. They may even have some restrictions on the kind of dog and its size. Some allow only well behaved dogs on their premises.

Once the decision has been made to go on a trip, and the bed and breakfast selected, it is a good idea to phone in advance and make sure that the chosen bed and breakfast, dog friendly according to its website can confirm that accommodation for dogs is available on your chosen day.  There may be accommodation for the family, but no place for the dog. It is also advisable to know if they have any restrictions as to the size and type of dog allowed.

A typical bed and breakfast, dog friendly or otherwise has a restful and intimate atmosphere, quite unlike a hotel or resort. Well behaved dogs may be welcome, but owners will have to ensure that the dogs are house trained and have not got disoriented because of the road journey to a new place. They should not disturb other guests, or cause any destruction. Bed and breakfast dog friendly establishments may have certain areas where the dogs cannot go.  The dog owner has to ensure that these ground rules are obeyed.

Many bed and breakfast dog friendly establishments do not levy extra charges for four legged guests. Others may ask for a refundable deposit to safeguard against any accidents. Some even charge extra per night for dogs. Many owners however feel this is a small price to pay for the joy of taking dogs on holiday.
