Dog training leads - which is right for your dog?

When you’re ready to start training your dog, you should buy a good training lead, of at least six feet in length.

Why the long lead?

So that you can teach the dog - eventually you want him to be so well behaved that he performs exactly the same way whether he’s on a lead or not.

Puppy training school

If you’ve bought a new puppy, you’ll be able to take him to his first classes as soon as he’s had his shots, which is at around three to four months. Puppy training school isn’t obedience training, it’s a way of socializing your dog and getting him used to other people and animals.

His lead for puppy training school will usually be quite short, although some trainers like to train dogs on a long lead immediately.

Material for training leads

Cotton webbing is the best material to choose, but often it’s hard to get webbing leads.
